The Future Looks Bright

Albany School is a mixed, comprehensive school allocated on a single site on the edge of Albany Park. The school is a specialist Business and Enterprise college. A full range of courses are offered to pupils of all abilities. Pupils are organised into teaching groups of around 25. We have a well established, successful Sixth Form which is rated in the top ten percent of schools nationally for value added.

There are plans for Albany to become an Academy sponsored by Oasis Community Learning from September 2009. Plans for the future include a range of new opportunities and the building of a new school, possibly on a site to the south of the existing school. During the autumn term consultation about these plans will take place. By the Open Evening on the 20th October it should be possible to make parents and children aware of the future for Albany. You can find out more about Oasis Community Learning by going to their website www.oasiscommunitylearning.org.

Priority will be given to applicants in the following order:

  1. Children in Public care

  2. Children for whom a particular school is appropriate on genuine medical grounds.

  3. Such applications will be decided by the Governing Body or nominated panel. (Applications on medical grounds will only be considered under this criterion if they are supported by an attached written statement from a doctor. This must demonstrate that there is a very specific connection between the child’s medical need and the school requested).

  4. Children with a brother or sister attending the school at the time of admission.

  5. The children concerned must be living at the same address.

  6. Children living nearest to the school measured ‘as the crow flies’

  7. That is in a straight line from the child’s home to the main entrance of the school. (Travel by private car or public transport is not taken into account).

We seek to retain the full range of ability and the balance of social diversity

The Governors will seek to retain the full range of ability and the balance of social diversity which has been a tradition of the school.

Pupils will be admitted at the age of 11 without reference to ability or aptitude.

The number of intended admissions for the year commencing 1st September 2008 will be 270 and this number of pupils will be admitted in each subsequent year.

Albany School is committed to the co-ordinated approach to admissions administered by the London Borough of Enfield.
